Pre-treatment
Abrasive Blasting
-
Abrasive blast cleaning is a surface treatment process in which an abrasive media is accelerated through a blasting nozzle by compressed air. Common abrasive media include aluminum oxide, sodium bicarbonate, glass bead, silica sand, and steel grit; to name a few.
-
Sandblasting helps to rejuvenate rusted and/or coated metal and starts the process of making it look new again.
-
Depending on the metal substrate and environment it will live in, sandblasting may be a necessary part of the preparation process.
Chemical Cleaning

Outgassing
-
Outgassing is the release of trapped air in a metal substrate during the heating process. Porosity and air pockets in the casting trap air and when the powder coated casting/part is heated, the air expands and blows through the exposed metal surface. This results in defects like pinholes, bubbles, craters, bumps, and fisheyes.
-
Outgassing can vary across different types of substrates. While complex in nature, the challenge is dependent on the type and quality of the casting.
-
Clean metal by itself can be immediately powder coated but that will not give you superior performance and weathering characteristics. A good pretreatment allows the powder coating to better bond physically to the metal, withstand exterior weathering, and prevents flash rust prior to powder coating. PowderWorks utilizes the latest technology in chemical pre-treatment resulting in a high quality, long lasting finish.
"Had a wonderful experience working with all the guys here. The customer service and response time was excellent. We asked to have around 2 dozen large and small parts powder coated extremely quickly and they had no problem doing it. The steel we had done is for a trade show and we couldn’t be more satisfied with how it turned out. We are extremely excited to show these beautiful pieces and have no doubt in our mind that this will be the only place we will use for anything powder coated."

FAQ
The Answers You Need
What materials can be powder coated?
Metal and any material that can conduct an electrostatic charge. Mild steel, galvanized and electroplated steel, aluminum, stainless steel and most other steel alloys can be powder coated.
What colors are available?
We have roughly 200+ color and texture options. Custom colors can be arranged for a fee.
We're interested in your project, let's discuss it!
How durable is it?
Powder coating is extremely resistant to peeling and cracking. Powder coated surfaces provide high abrasion, corrosion and chemical resistance. In most instances Powder coatings meets or exceeds the finish performance characteristics of conventional solvent based wet paint coating.
How long will my project take?
The powder coating and curing process is fairly quick, typically takes from 1-3 hours depending on the size and complexity of your project. However each project must be meticulously prepared and clean. Also note that each project must be coated and cured according the specification and separate from others, projects are staged based on order date and due date to maximize efficiency. Because of this dynamic we suggest planning your completion date 10 to 14 days in advance. Rushed orders can at times be accommodated but please play it safe and give yourself a time cushion.
